With eleven nominations spanning back to the first year of this century, the Writing Team at The Bold and the Beautiful won for the third time this year. Its prior two wins were in 2010 and 2013.
"I share this award with my wife who is the inspiration for every love story I've ever written," head writer Bradley P. Bell said in accepting the award.
When it comes to what sets B&B apart, Bell says, "We are just trying to tell stories that move people and touch people that hopefully have a message and have people thinking a little bit."
The location shoots have proven especially fun for the scribe to pen. "They open up your mind, when you're throwing people out of helicopters instead of they're pouring a cup of coffee," he jokes. "It's a whole new dynamic."
The Bold and the Beautiful has had seven prior nominations in the Outstanding Directing Team category and two wins -- one in 2013, and another in 2011 (when it tied with its sister soap, The Young and the Restless).
But what made the third win such a charm was that it centered around the show's recent location shoot in Dubai. "Ridge [Thorsten Kaye] falls out of the helicopter, and we weren't exactly sure how we were going to do that," director Jennifer Howard revealed in the pressroom. "We thought we'd have a body, like a huge mannequin that weighed 150 pounds, then we looked at it out by the loading docks and thought, 'How are we going to ship this to Dubai, this body, and then throw it out of a helicopter? And then, once it hits the water, how are we going to get it back?!' So we decided to do all that with green screen, and nobody actually went out of a helicopter."
As for whether or not it's a moment of excitement or a moment of terror when the show's executive producer, Bradley P. Bell, arranges for a location shoot, Howard said it's both. "We're excited we get to go shoot someplace different, but at the same time, there's a lot of logistics involved and it's a lot of hard work and we're like, 'Are we going to pull this round?!'" she admitted. "But it's a lot of fun, and we're so grateful he allows us that opportunity."
