The pool from which this year's Emmy winners will be selected just got a little smaller. The official 2014 Daytime Emmy pre-nominations have been announced.
Four televised daytime drama series -- The Bold and the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Young and the Restless -- and two online soaps -- All My Children and One Life to Live -- are eligible for Emmy consideration this year.
Here's how the pre-nominations were determined. All stars who wanted to be considered for the Emmy process submitted a single scene representing their best work from the 2013 calendar year. The submitted clips could be no longer than three minutes in length.
"An online judging ballot containing all entrants in each of six performer categories was sent to registered, eligible peer judges. The ballot contained a randomized order of performers in each category, regardless of their show affiliation," NATAS explained in a statement. "Judges were required to view clips online containing the work of each performer entry before selecting their top 10 performer choices in each category."
The ten candidates in each category who received the highest number of votes now advance to the blue ribbon at-home screening round, scheduled to begin on March 26, 2014, which will determine both nominees and Emmy winners.
The Lead Actress category contains 12 prenominated performers and the Supporting Actor category contains 13 prenominated performers due to ties.
The nominations for this year's Daytime Emmys will be announced May 1. The ceremony will be held June 22 at the Beverly Hilton hotel. Whether or not there will be a television broadcast is still very much up in the air. As reported earlier this year, HLN has opted out of broadcasting this year's ceremony.
