Lily was relieved when Cane returned to the visitation room with Mattie. Cane said Mattie had been arrested for trespassing. Mattie explained that she'd chained herself to the gate with a padlock before tossing the key into the bushes. Mattie proudly announced that she'd done what she'd done to protest her mother's prison sentence. Mattie sadly noted that the police had shown up before the reporters had. Lily said Mattie's behavior had been reckless, but Cane explained that Christine had decided not to press charges.
Mattie told her parents and her brother that she'd had to do something to free Lily from her horrible nightmare. Lily said she appreciated Mattie's drive and courage. Lily insisted that Mattie focus on her future because legal troubles would follow her long after Lily had served her sentence. Mattie cried that seeing her mom in prison was a nightmare. In Victoria's office, Nikki told Matt she couldn't concentrate because she was waiting for the DNA results. Nikki cried, "I can't imagine what's keeping them." Victor entered and suggested he take Nikki and Matt out to dinner because it would be a distraction from waiting. Nate entered and closed the door. Nate held up an envelope and announced that he'd received the results of the DNA tests.
Jack, Abby, Victoria, and Jill joined Ashley, Kyle, and Traci at the Abbott home. Jill was shocked to learn that Billy had begun gambling again. Abby cried that she was shocked, too. Jack said he'd believed that Billy had only been dabbling in gambling. Victoria noted that she'd only recently learned about Billy's gambling from Phyllis. Jill stomped her feet and cried, "Phyllis. What the hell is wrong with that woman?"
Victoria told everyone gathered that not even she had been able to manage to stop Billy, which had made Phyllis realize she was in over her heard. Traci asked Victoria about her interactions with Billy. Victoria reported that Billy had insisted he wouldn't fail and would prove them all wrong. Traci proposed that they all become a united voice that Billy couldn't ignore. They all seemed apprehensive as they awaited Billy and Phyllis' arrival.
When Billy and Phyllis arrived, Jill greeted her son and said she'd heard he'd been gambling again. Billy asked if he'd been dragged home for an intervention. Billy headed toward the door, but Phyllis stopped him and said he needed to stay and listen to what everyone had to say. Traci told Billy his family wanted to help him fight his addiction. Jack insisted his praises had been earned, though he denied he was attacking Billy.
Phyllis told Billy she understood why he felt he was being attacked. Jill accused Phyllis of being an enabler. Jack defended Phyllis and said she shouldn't be regarded as a scapegoat. Jack, recalling his own experiences, said the only one to blame was the addict. Jack remembered how he'd struggled to keep everything balanced while trying to convince himself and everyone around him that he was on top of things. Jack cried that any bet was a threat to someone addicted to gambling.
Jack, backing off from a stance of tough love, sincerely insisted that he and the others would fight alongside Billy. Billy replied, "Yeah, you make it sound like you're on my side." Ashley, sobbing, told Billy that he was more important to her than any conflict at work. Ashley pleaded with Billy to enter rehab, and she promised to do whatever was necessary to mend their relationship. Ashley told Billy that everyone gathered around him wanted nothing more than for him to be healthy again.
Phyllis looked Billy in the eye and asked what he was thinking. Billy said he knew what he had to do, and he flatly refused to enter rehab. Jill jumped out of her chair and cried, "Excuse me?" Jack proclaimed that Billy was making a mistake. Billy insisted they were all wrong. Traci asked Billy why he was refusing the help he needed. Billy accused Ashley and Kyle of having set a trap to force him out of his position at Jabot. Kyle exclaimed, "Addicted to gambling. You're paranoid now. Perfect."
Traci cried that Billy had misread their intentions. Billy insisted he could make up his own mind. Abby noted that Billy had already made up his mind the second he'd arrived and seen them gathered. Phyllis said, "She's right, isn't she?" Billy, livid, told his family to leave him alone. Jill and Kyle ran after Billy. Billy rushed out the door, leaving his family stunned.
At Newman Enterprises, Victor and Matt anxiously wondered whether the DNA test results had proven that Jack was their brother. Nate revealed that he hadn't looked yet, and Victor pushed him to open them. Nate said he would once Jack got there.

Later, Summer walked in and found David doing Sharon's hair. Summer asked where everyone was, and she seemed dismayed that she had been the first one to show up. Mariah cheerfully offered to make her a drink, and Summer grumbled that Mariah being nice was creeping her out. Mariah reminded Summer that it was Sharon's night, and she hoped they could all get along. Summer made a beeline toward the Champagne as Abby arrived with her own stylist, Michelle. Abby asserted that she had to look good for her followers, and Tessa noted that Abby had a million fewer followers than Mariah did.
Mariah offered Abby some food, and Abby rambled about how hungry she was, but she turned up her nose at the idea of eating a cupcake. Tessa volunteered to make her something healthier in the kitchen. Later, Mariah hoped Abby was feeling better after having a snack, and Abby apologized for her "bitchy" behavior, but she'd been expecting more than refined flour. Abby inquired about the plans for the rest of the night, and Mariah revealed that she'd reserved the roof deck on its last night of the season. Meanwhile, Nick told Sharon that he couldn't wait to marry her, and she poked fun at how enticing she looked with her hair in curlers. Nick swore that she would be stunning in a gunnysack, and she figured that there were no surprises left. He alluded to getting her a pre-wedding gift, and he showed her a flyer. She excitedly asked if the location was where they were staying on their honeymoon, but he announced that it was their new home. Her jaw dropped.
Nick reasoned that he'd wanted to take the pressure off because Sharon had been busy with the wedding and her graduation. He divulged that he'd bought the house, and it would be ready for them to move into right after their wedding. Nick recalled that Sharon had told him what she wanted in a home, and he'd found the perfect place in the best part of town, so he'd pulled the trigger. Sharon argued that it was a big decision that they should have made as a couple, but he defended that other people had been interested, and he would have lost the house if he hadn't taken it. He insisted that it was the home for them.
Nick swore that he hadn't done it to impress his dad or prove a point, but he was doing it for them and their future. Sharon conceded that the grounds and pool looked incredible, and he surmised that she'd just been shocked. Sharon confessed that she'd never imagined living in a place like that, and he reiterated that it had been why he'd done it. Summer conceded that Abby was obviously crazy about Arturo, but she wondered how well Abby really knew him.
Abby figured that she liked what she'd seen so far, and she could see herself with Arturo long-term, but she wasn't rushing into anything. Summer scoffed at the idea that Arturo was perfect, and Tessa blasted Summer for talking smack from the sidelines when Summer really wanted love but couldn't figure out how to get it or make it last. Summer suspected that Tessa's speech was for Mariah's benefit, and she barked that Tessa was wrong about her. Abby assured Tessa that she wasn't wrong.
Mariah admitted that it had been nice watching Tessa take Summer down a few pegs. Tessa confided that she had been talking about Mariah, since Tessa couldn't imagine life without her. Abby asked about the party bus, and Mariah called to see if it was on schedule. Summer sent a text message to Kyle, implying that she'd love an excuse to ditch Sharon's party. He replied to say he wasn't interested.
Victoria inquired about Sharon's new job, and Sharon reported that the work itself was fine, but she hated sneaking around. Sharon revealed that she'd found J.T.'s file on Rey's desk, and she hadn't been able to keep from looking, but she'd only seen a few photos before Rey had caught her. Sharon continued that he'd been cool about it, and it hadn't seemed like a huge deal, since she was working for the police. Nikki theorized that Rey had been setting Sharon up, and she advised Sharon not to let her guard down. Sharon insisted that she'd covered fine, but she was worried that the thick file contained forensic information and other evidence.
Victoria swore that her house had been clear of any evidence, and she feared that Sharon trusted Rey too much. Nikki cautioned Sharon to be more careful. Mariah announced that the party bus was parked out front, and she presented everyone with sashes that she'd made that labeled each person's role in the wedding party. The ladies filed out, but Sharon stopped and wistfully looked around the cottage. She picked up the real estate flyer and stared at it before her gaze shifted to Cassie's drawing and the family photos on the mantel.
Sharon set down the flyer and looked at her engagement ring. Nikki returned to find out what was taking Sharon that long, but she closed the door when she saw the pained look on Sharon's face. Sharon claimed that she'd just gotten emotional, but Nikki urged Sharon to talk to her. Sharon cried that she'd tried every way possible to make Nick understand that she didn't want to move, but he'd presented a new home as a fait accompli. Nikki compared it to the kind of grand romantic gesture Victor would make.
Nikki reflected back on battling with Sharon from the day Nikki had laid eyes on her. Nikki asked if Sharon had ever wondered why Nikki had taken an instant disliking to her, and Sharon replied that she'd thought about it every day for 25 years. Nikki explained that it was because they were very much alike, having grown up poor with everything being a struggle to have any hope for a decent future. Nikki believed their early experiences would never leave them, nor should they ever forget them. Nikki thought another thing they had in common was that their families meant everything to them, and while she might not like Sharon, she respected Sharon and always would.
Sharon realized that it had probably been the most honest and meaningful thing Nikki had ever said to her, and she inquired whether Nikki had any wise words of advice. Nikki believed that Nick had finally found his own path, and she saw the same spark and drive in him that she'd seen in Victor years earlier. Nikki encouraged Sharon to strap herself in and enjoy it, since Nick was doing all of it for Sharon. Sharon recognized that if she was going to be the woman by Nick's side when he reached for his dreams, she had to throw herself into it, but she wished that she didn't feel like she was losing the parts of Nick that had made her fall in love with him in the first place.
Nikki noted that Nick was growing and maturing, but she noticed that Sharon had, too. Sharon marveled that it wasn't a conversation that she'd ever thought they'd have in that lifetime. Sharon figured that they should get going, but Nikki imagined that there was enough booze on the bus to keep the guests occupied. Sharon confessed that there was one thing she'd been thinking about that Nikki wouldn't like. Sharon felt that in order for her to be a good wife to Nick, she couldn't go into the marriage with secrets or lies between them. Sharon asserted that she had to tell Nick the truth about J.T.'s death.
At the Athletic Club bar, Jack filled Nick in about how the paternity trail had gone cold. Jack considered all the people who had urged him to drop the whole thing, and Nick pointed out that it wasn't something Jack had to decide right then. Jack proclaimed that the night was about celebrating, and Nick shared that they'd be neighbors soon, since he'd bought Sharon a new house. Nick hoped that she loved it as much as he did, since he'd wanted it to be a surprise, like when he'd fixed up the cottage before their first wedding. Nick felt that things needed to be different that time, since they only got so many chances in life, and he wanted everything to be just right.
Devon arrived at Neil's and told Neil about Shauna's birthday party. Devon wanted Neil to join him for dinner, but Neil said he was on his way to Nick's bachelor party and invited Devon to go with him. Neil said that Hilary would've wanted Devon to get on with his life.
At the Athletic Club, Nick wanted an assurance from Jack that there weren't going to be any surprises and that Victor would not be attending his bachelor party. Nick wanted his party to be low-key. Jack chortled and told Nick that they would have what John Abbott had called "a gentlemen's evening." Jack assured Nick it would be a low-key evening. Nick said that was perfect. Nick said that Sharon hadn't been happy with his recent choices, including hacking into Victor's company database. He told Jack about Sharon's fear that Nick was turning into Victor.
Jack praised Nick for using Victor's cunning against him and assured Nick that Sharon was aware that Nick would never break her trust. Nick said that he'd needed to be like Victor to pull off his plan. Nick admitted that he'd been afraid he'd lost Sharon. Jack assured Nick that Sharon knew that everything Nick did was for his family. Jack said that in spite of the tension between Nick and Victor, Victor was very proud of Nick.
Arturo arrived and congratulated Nick. He teasingly asked when the strippers would arrive. He was advised there wouldn't be any. Neil arrived with Devon. Devon gave Nick a very expensive bottle of cognac and said he'd been saving it for a special occasion such as that.
It was speech time. Jack said that he'd watched Nick grow from a boy to a successful businessman. He was very happy that Nick and Sharon had found their way back to each other, and he added that they belonged together.
Neil asked Nick about his new house. Nick said he wanted a new life and new memories for his family. Devon said he envied Nick, and that had been what he'd envisioned for his family. Devon advised Nick not to take things for granted, and before leaving, Devon suggested that Nick's party needed to step up.
At Sharon's, Nikki tried to give Sharon some herbal tea to calm her down, but Sharon refused it. Sharon said she wanted to be honest and tell Nick about J.T. Sharon asked how many times Nikki had ripped into her for lying to Nick. Nikki asked why Sharon suddenly felt the urge for honesty. Sharon said that lying only ended in disaster. Nikki said that telling the world that they had killed and buried J.T. was a recipe for disaster. Sharon said she wasn't telling the world -- she was only telling Nick, and they could trust him.
Nikki told Sharon that she didn't want to put Nick in a position where he needed to lie. She reminded Sharon that the group had vowed to keep what had happened to J.T. a secret. Sharon told Nikki she wasn't willing to risk losing Nick. Nikki warned Sharon that if the secret was ever exposed, families would be destroyed. She begged Sharon to be strong. Nikki said that once Sharon told Nick, he'd become part of their conspiracy, and she asked if Sharon wanted to put Nick through that.
At that moment, Mariah returned and asked Sharon and Nikki what the hold-up was. Nikki said she'd been helping Sharon with last-minute jitters. The three ladies left for the party.
At the Dive Bar, everyone toasted the bride. Summer said the party needed some dancing, and she invited everyone to get on the dance floor. Victoria and Nikki didn't participate.
When Phyllis arrived, Victoria and Nikki told her about Sharon's determination to tell Nick about J.T. Phyllis wanted to have a few words with Sharon, but Nikki said she'd already spoken to Sharon and was certain she'd convinced Sharon to remain silent. Nikki decided to reinforce her chat with Sharon and sought Sharon out.
Sharon was annoyed because she knew Nikki had told Victoria and Phyllis about her decision to tell Nick about J.T. Nikki admitted she had told Victoria and Phyllis. She reminded Sharon that J.T. could have killed Victoria that night. She wasn't saying that what they'd done was right; however, it had been justified, and they couldn't undo it. She asked Sharon if they had anything to worry about. Sharon said they didn't.
Summer asked Phyllis why she was there. Phyllis said she'd popped in for a drink. When Victoria asked for a private word with Phyllis, Summer said she was puzzled by Phyllis and Victoria's sudden friendship.
Phyllis told Victoria that she needed to have a word with Sharon to reinforce to her what was at stake. Victoria said Sharon felt she was betraying Nick by not telling him the truth. Nikki said that they had to make sure that no one found out about J.T. Phyllis wanted assurance that Nikki had been able to convince Sharon to keep their secret. At that moment, Mariah announced that it was time to toast the bride.
In Mariah's toast to Sharon, she said that when Sharon had announced that she and Nick were reuniting, she'd been less than enthusiastic. She said she was still nervous about the marriage because the first one had been a major failure. She said that Sharon had taught her about the importance of honesty. Mariah admitted that it had been hard for her to believe that, since she was such a cynic, but Sharon had proven that it could happen. Mariah said she was happy that Sharon was her mother, and she was also very proud of her.
Abby said that Sharon was a much stronger and better person than she had been, and the new Sharon deserved a second chance.
Victoria said that Sharon made Nick very happy and that it had taken her a long time to admit that.
Summer said she should hate Sharon for trying to convince Nick that he wasn't her father, but Sharon made Nick happy, so she was Team Shick.
After a long pause, Phyllis said she wished Sharon and Nick a long and happy life.
At that moment, the men arrived. Mariah fretted about the men crashing her party. Jack proclaimed that they were stepping up their game and shaking things up. Nikki noticed Sharon was missing. Summer invited Nick to dance.
Neil was at the bar when Jack approached and asked if Neil had been texting Ashley and if he'd been keeping her happy. Neil said he'd been trying to. Neil said he'd heard that Billy had been gambling again. Jack said Billy was at the stage where everyone was an enemy. Neil noted that both he and Jack had been there, and they'd made it back.
Neil received a text message from Ashley asking him what time she should arrive at his place. Neil asked Jack when Nick's shindig would be over. Jack smiled and urged Neil to duck out and have a good time. Neil was delighted and asked Jack to say goodbye to Nick. Neil asked what could be better than heading for a night of jazz and a beautiful woman.
Jack joined Phyllis, who'd been sitting alone at a table. He asked if she'd seen Billy. Phyllis said not until that moment when the elevator doors opened and Billy stood there. Jack muttered under his breath, "Intervention, part two, coming up." Phyllis approached Billy. He asked if Phyllis had another knife to stab him in the back with. He then turned, walked over to the bar, and ordered a double scotch. Angry, Jack said he'd had enough. Billy said he'd definitely had enough of everyone's help and opinion.
Billy stated that Ashley had set him up with an intervention that had been nothing more than a plan to get him unseated as CEO. Jack had agreed with the plan. Billy said what had hurt the most was that he hadn't been surprised. He said that Jack had never wanted him as CEO, but he'd thought he could trust Phyllis. Phyllis assured him that he could trust her, but Billy accused her of lying. Jack shouted at Billy to stop, but Billy ignored him. Jack decided to lead Phyllis away.
Dancing with Arturo, Abby said that she couldn't believe that Nick and Sharon were going to get married again. Abby asked if Arturo believed in happily ever after. Arturo said it could happen.
Summer approached Billy at the bar. She said she couldn't believe what the family had done to him. Billy said that Traci's heart had been in the right place, but the rest of them could "go to hell." Summer said that Billy had every right to be pissed off, but he shouldn't allow them see him that way. She offered to take him home. Billy asked Summer if she was kidding. Billy said that Summer had come on to him to get back at her mother, and apparently Summer thought he needed her help. He called Summer pathetic, and that made her worse than his family.
Billy staggered away from the bar. Summer tried to help him, but he told her to get away from him -- Summer left. Seconds later, Phyllis approached Billy from behind and touched his arms. Billy shrugged her off, knocking Phyllis into a passing waiter who'd been carrying a tray of drinks. The waiter went down, and the tray and the drinks went flying.
Jack angrily shouted at Billy that he was leaving immediately. Jack tried to escort Billy out, but Billy shrugged Jack off. Jack warned Billy that if he wanted to dig himself a hole, he wouldn't to do it there and ruin Nick and Sharon's party. Billy claimed he hadn't ruined anything, and he was fine. Jack yelled at Billy to stop blaming everyone and to own up to his own mistakes. He wanted Billy to live up to the Abbott name. Billy asked why and if it was because Jack couldn't.
Jack told Billy that he'd spent his entire life trying to make John proud. Billy asked if that was an implication that Billy had been a disgrace to his legacy. Billy asked what Phyllis thought, but Jack warned him not to drag Phyllis into it. Billy admitted that he'd been gambling big time, and he'd lost a lot of money. He admitted that he'd dug himself into a hole he couldn't climb out of. He said he'd borrowed money to cover the losses, and he'd lost that as well. He admitted that he was in big trouble with no way out, and he admitted that he'd crashed and burned. Billy said that Jack had to be happy about that, but Jack said he wasn't.
Billy told Jack that Ashley would unseat him as CEO, and Traci would step in long enough to get rid of the blood Abbott clause. Jack would be back as CEO the next day -- exactly what Jack had asked for. Billy said that he was the big loser and that Jack was the big winner. As Billy was about to leave, Phyllis stopped him and said she wanted to help. Billy refused, said he'd seen her kind of help, and left.
Phyllis told Jack that Billy was a stubborn jerk. Jack told her that Billy had to want her help, otherwise she couldn't do "a damned thing" for him. Jack said that Billy was a lucky man to have Phyllis by his side. Phyllis grumbled that someone needed to tell Billy that. Jack told her that he'd figured it out, and one day, Billy would, too.
At the bar, Jack told Nick that Billy was on a destructive path, and he hated what it was doing to Billy and Phyllis. Nick said he thought Phyllis had been done with Billy. Jack said he'd also believed that to the point that he'd believed he'd had a chance to reunite with Phyllis. Nick told Jack that he'd told himself a hundred times that he was over Sharon, but he never was. Jack admitted that he hadn't fought hard enough for Phyllis, and he'd let her slip away. He said it was one of his biggest regrets.
Nick had been deep in thought when Summer joined him and asked what he'd been thinking about. Nick said he'd been thinking about how one decision could change the course of someone's life for better or worse. Summer asked if Nick was sure about marrying Sharon. Nick advised her not to start. Summer said she was worried about him. Nick said that if Summer kept what she knew to herself, all would remain fine. Summer assured Nick that his secret was safe with her. She only wanted his happiness.
In another area, Sharon told Nikki and Victoria that she'd decided to tell Nick the truth. Nikki reminded Sharon that she'd agreed to keep their secret. Sharon said she'd changed her mind. Victoria demanded that Sharon change it back. Sharon asked why they were so worried -- Nick had hated J.T. as much as they had, and Nick wouldn't turn them in. Nikki chimed in that Sharon didn't know that.
Sharon told Nikki and Victoria that she refused to marry Nick while keeping such a secret. She didn't want a marriage like Nikki had with Victor. Victoria pointed out that Rey had already been sniffing around Nick, and she didn't want to give Rey any reason to suspect Nick again. Sharon said that she hadn't worked with Rey for very long, but she could already tell that he'd solve the case. Sharon wanted Nick to hear about J.T. from her first.
Sharon told Nikki and Victoria that she didn't want to start her marriage with a huge lie between them. Nikki asked if Sharon believed that if she told Nick the truth, Nick wouldn't be able to testify against her in court because he was her husband. Sharon said she didn't care because it was the right thing for her and Nick. She said that when Nick said his vows, he wouldn't be keeping anything from her, and Nick deserved the same honesty from her. Nikki suggested that Sharon sleep on it, and she might have a different perspective about it in the morning. Sharon refused to wait and decided to tell Nick immediately.
Nick asked Phyllis if she was okay, because he'd seen the earlier exchange with Billy. She said she was fine and asked if Nick really wanted to marry Sharon. Exasperated, Nick said he was sick of that question. He said he was one hundred percent certain that he wanted to marry Sharon. He said that even after he'd slept with Phyllis, he still wanted to be with Sharon.
Nick told Phyllis that he intended to tell Sharon about his one-night stand with Phyllis, and he would do it later that evening. Phyllis tried to dissuade Nick, but he said that he and Sharon had agreed to be completely honest with each other that time. Phyllis claimed that honesty was overrated, and Sharon wasn't the most stable person. Nick said that Sharon was different, and she'd be able to handle what he told her. Phyllis said that the new Sharon could flip out, and the old Sharon could show up again. Nick said it would be worse if she heard it from someone else.
Phyllis reminded Nick that he'd lost everything the last time Sharon had discovered that he'd been with Phyllis. Nick refused to believe that Sharon would throw everything away because he'd made a small mistake with Phyllis. Phyllis asked him what would happen if Sharon left him. Nick said it would mean they weren't meant to be together. He said he couldn't exchange vows with Sharon, knowing he'd been lying to her. Nick said he was done listening, and he intended to tell Sharon.
Nick and Sharon walked toward each other while Nikki, Victoria, and Phyllis, watched in horror.
Due to CBS News coverage of the Ford-Kavanaugh hearings, The Young and the Restless did not air. While this was not a planned preemption, there were no "lost" episodes as a result of the scheduling change. The episode that was to have aired on Thursday, September 27, aired on Friday, September 28. All subsequent episodes were also be pushed back one day.
At the Dive Bar, Sharon and Nick crossed the rooftop toward one another. He asked if they could talk, and she told him that she wanted some time with him, too. Phyllis grumbled that it couldn't be happening, and she stalked off. Nick implored Sharon to tell him whatever it was, but an alarm suddenly sounded.
Nick yelled that they had to get out of there. Phyllis went to find Summer while Sharon searched for Mariah. Victoria told Sharon that she'd just seen Mariah head downstairs. Summer cracked that the alarm was setting the right mood. Tessa announced that it was a false alarm, and security had said there was no need to leave the building. There was a cheer when the alarm went silent.
Summer sarcastically prepared to get back to the intense revelry, and Nick looked around for Sharon. Summer thought they should get free drinks because of the alarm, even though it had been the only real excitement all evening. Phyllis privately asked Nick what had happened with Sharon, and he replied that he hadn't had a chance to tell her. Nick thought Sharon deserved to know, but Phyllis countered that Sharon deserved a wedding without images of them in her head. Phyllis speculated that the alarm had been the universe trying to protect him from himself, and he accused her of pulling the alarm. "Damn right I did," Phyllis admitted, adding that she'd do it again.
Phyllis inquired whether Nick was drunk or self-sabotaging, but he was determined to go into his marriage without any secrets. She argued that no one knew the whole truth about anyone else, but he explained that it was about him owning up to his mistakes by not covering them up the way his father would. Phyllis scolded that Nick didn't get to blow up their lives over his issues with Victor, and she admonished him for trashing the pact they'd made. She pleaded that she had just as much to lose as he did, and she doubted that Sharon would be the soul of discretion once the news sent her over the edge.
Phyllis appealed to Nick not to pile onto the "hell" Billy was already going through, but Nick contended that Billy's problems weren't his own. Phyllis stressed that it was their problem, and Nick suggested that she resolve her problems with Billy while Nick did the same with Sharon. Phyllis scoffed at the idea that Sharon would calmly discuss Nick's infidelity with the woman he'd left Sharon for, and she warned that not only would Sharon explode, but he'd be exposed as a "faithless bastard" to the media on the heels of his arrest. Phyllis pressured him to think of how it would affect his children, and she begged him to let it go.
Nick accused Phyllis of emotional blackmail, but she contended that what had happened between them would never happen again. She recognized that they'd screwed up, but she thought no one else had to suffer. She forced him to choose between ruining their lives or admitting that she was making sense, and he agreed to keep the past in the past. He assured her that she'd talked him down and that he was just tired of everyone waiting for him and Sharon to fall apart again. Nick sensed that Sharon had also wanted to tell him something, and Phyllis chalked it up to pre-wedding jitters.
Mariah greeted Kyle at the bar and found his timing suspicious. She surmised that he'd crashed the party to hook up with a bridesmaid, namely Summer. She questioned whether he was really that desperate, but he asserted that he had a date lined up, and he was only there for a drink. Summer joined them and exclaimed that Mariah had thrown a party so hot that it had made the smoke alarm go off. Mariah mentioned Kyle's hot romance, and Summer sourly envisioned toasting to him and his bride sometime the following year. Mariah stepped away to find Sharon.
Summer observed Nick and Phyllis' heated conversation and asked if Kyle saw the same thing she did, but Kyle ignored her. She teased him for sending text messages to his girlfriend, but he snapped that her "mean girl mind tricks" wouldn't work on him. She noted the intensity between her parents, as if they were magnetically drawn to one another. Kyle reluctantly conceded that he could see it, too.
Phyllis crossed over to Summer and Kyle and asked if they'd seen Sharon and her entourage. Summer suggested that Phyllis call it a night, since she hadn't really been invited. Phyllis argued that they were a blended family, and she claimed that she just wanted to wish Sharon well. Summer was skeptical, and Phyllis confided that she'd really like to tell Sharon that she hoped Sharon's hair looked horrible at the wedding. Phyllis walked away, and Summer found it odd that her mother wanted to talk to Sharon right after having an intense conversation with Nick. Summer urged Kyle to talk to Phyllis.
Kyle offered to help Phyllis find Sharon and the other partygoers. Kyle sympathized that the day hadn't been easy for Phyllis because of what had happened with Billy, and Phyllis grumbled that Billy's relatives were waiting for him to fail. Kyle claimed that no one had wanted Billy to start gambling again, but Phyllis suspected that Kyle didn't mind. Kyle contended that it made him think of his own dad denying that anything was wrong, and he said he owed Phyllis for the way she'd helped Jack. Kyle swore that he was worried about Billy, and he wondered if Billy had finally admitted that his gambling had gotten out of hand. Phyllis answered a call and rushed off.
In the elevator, Sharon realized that it had been a false alarm. Nikki stopped the elevator and remarked that the danger was real, and Victoria called Sharon the emergency. Victoria ranted that the situation wasn't all about Sharon, and Sharon testily asked how long they could keep her in there before it became kidnapping. Nikki advised Sharon to remember the feeling of being locked away from her loved ones, since that was what Sharon was wishing on all of them if she confessed.
Sharon refused to have lies between her and Nick, but Nikki clucked that Sharon had lied to him numerous times. Sharon bemoaned that it had completely torn them apart, and it would tear them apart all over again if she held onto the lie. Sharon wondered if that was what Nikki and Victoria were hoping for, but Victoria pointed out that they were the ones trying to make sure the wedding happened when Sharon was ready to throw it all away. Nikki proclaimed from the bottom of her heart that she'd rather see Sharon and Nick married for the rest of their lives than watch the mother of his children go to prison.
Victoria recounted that Sharon had wanted Nick since the day she'd met him, and Nick was it for Sharon. Victoria acknowledged that she hadn't always approved, but the only one trying to sabotage the wedding and marriage was Sharon herself. Sharon mumbled that she needed time to think, and Nikki cited Sharon's need to clear her conscience by laying it all on Nick. Nikki cautioned that it would be a mistake for both Sharon and Nick, and she implored Sharon to marry him and get on with her life by forgetting J.T. Sharon doubted that Nikki and Victoria could forget, since that night was in all of them, and they would be monsters if they forgot about it -- if they weren't monsters already. Sharon restarted the elevator.
After Sharon walked away, Nikki huffed that Sharon thought that Nikki and Victoria were trying to ruin her marriage when they'd been protecting Sharon from herself. Victoria thought they should have made Sharon go home with them to make sure all Sharon did that night was think. Nick approached and asked if they'd seen Sharon, and Victoria speculated that Sharon had called it a night. Nick was surprised that Sharon hadn't told him, but Nikki figured that a bride needed space before her wedding. Nick wanted to make sure Sharon was okay.
Meanwhile, Summer griped that the point hadn't been for Kyle to make Phyllis run off, but Kyle explained that Phyllis had gotten a call and bolted. Summer wondered if her dad had summoned her mom for one last booty call before the big day, and she recalled Nick and Phyllis' history of bouncing back to one another. Mariah overheard as Summer crowed that her parents' one-night stand had been a little taste that had led them to go for the whole buffet. Summer bet that the wedding wouldn't happen the next day, and Mariah called Summer a spoiled princess who wished her mommy and daddy would get back together. Mariah encouraged Summer to seek help with her delusions, but Summer insisted that it had happened.
Mariah blasted Summer for trying to start a sick rumor, and she threatened to tell Sharon about the game Summer was playing. Kyle warned Mariah against it, and Mariah imagined that Summer loved spreading lies and misery the night before the wedding. Kyle claimed that Summer was drunk. Tessa joined them, and Mariah told her about Summer's contention that Nick and Phyllis had had sex. Summer noted that she was living proof, and she maintained that history had repeated itself while Nick and Sharon had been on a break.
Kyle chided Summer for telling more people, and Mariah and Tessa realized that he was backing up Summer's story. Summer blabbed that Kyle had found her dad's clothes on her mom's floor the morning after, and Mariah theorized that the story was part of the sick courtship dance between Kyle and Summer. Kyle insisted that it had been a one-night stand, but Summer questioned, "Or was it?" Mariah stared at Nick across the rooftop.
Mariah recognized that Summer hated Sharon, but she worried that the accusation would affect other people. Summer swore that she hadn't told anyone and that Mariah had walked into a private conversation. Summer added that she'd given her word that she wouldn't tell anyone, and Kyle divulged that Nick had paid Summer for her discretion. Mariah was appalled that Nick had not only cheated but had also given Summer hush money. Summer reiterated that the marriage was doomed, even if no one wanted to admit it.
Kyle declared that Summer was buying the next round, since she'd be broke after Nick found out what she'd done. Summer was confident that Mariah knew how to keep a secret, and she suggested that Kyle join her at the wedding as her plus-one. He passed.
Mariah couldn't believe that Nick had betrayed Sharon, even if they had been on a break. Mariah thought that Sharon should be the one to make the call, and she bemoaned that it had to be Phyllis, of all people. Tessa figured that everyone made mistakes, and what mattered was if people wanted to do better. Mariah tried to convince herself that it had only been a meaningless one-night thing that wouldn't happen again, but she questioned how to make sure it was "one and done." Tessa wondered if even Nick knew that himself, and Mariah contemplated whether she should stop her mother's wedding.
Phyllis arrived at the police station and thanked Rey for calling. Rey led Phyllis into Paul's office, where Billy welcomed her to the afterparty. Billy revealed that he'd just wanted another drink, but his mistake had been starting a fight when he'd been cut off. Phyllis lectured that he'd been lucky the cops had found him before something else had happened, and he sarcastically called himself a lucky guy. Rey removed Billy's handcuffs, and Phyllis prompted Billy to thank Rey for speaking to the bar owner and calling her.
Rey indicated that no charges had been filed. Billy said he owed Rey, who gave them use of the room and stepped out. Phyllis lamented that Billy was falling and that she didn't know how to stop it, and she begged him to tell her that it was as bad as it would get. Billy admitted that it was much worse than she knew.
Billy didn't want to talk about it there, but Phyllis insisted on helping him. He asked her to trust him, but she urged him to trust her because she would always be there for him. He confided that it felt like he was juggling twelve balls in the air, but they were lit M-80s that were about to land on his head and go boom. Phyllis understood what it was like to think that everything could be blown to pieces, and she knew it felt awful. She pushed him to tell her how deep he was in so that they could find a way to get him out.
Billy told Phyllis that all the money from the buy-in to the betting syndicate was gone. She was stunned, and he confirmed that there was no way of getting it back. She recounted that it had been six figures, and she inquired whether he'd lost $100,000. Billy clarified that it had been $500,000, and she assumed that he'd gotten the money from a loan shark. He clammed up, and she asked how much time they had to handle it. Billy confessed that it was worse than getting kneecapped, since he hadn't borrowed from a loan shark -- he'd taken it from Jabot.
At Crimson Lights, Sharon ignored a call from Nick. She jumped when there was a knock at the door, and she found Rey there. He apologized for scaring her, and he hoped to get a decent cup of coffee instead of the sludge at the station. He asked what had happened to her party, and she rambled about the fire alarm, her in-laws, and Phyllis being a party crasher. Rey joked that she'd hit the trifecta, and she shared that she'd had to get out of there before things had gotten worse. He was surprised that she'd gone to work, but she mused that it had seemed like a good idea to go to a quiet place to think.
Sharon was thankful for the distraction, and she offered to make Rey his usual. He inquired whether she was sure the alarm hadn't been a signal for fake firemen, and she laughed and informed him that it hadn't been that kind of party. Sharon added that Nick and his friends had shown up, and Rey commented that joint parties never ended well. She recalled that they'd tried doing things traditionally, but life had always gotten in the way. She supposed it was why she was moving into a new house with no memories or history.
Rey remarked that it was hard to beat Sharon's old home. Sharon gushed that the cottage was wonderful and cozy, and it had been one of the few constants in her life, so moving would be a huge change. Rey pointed out that it was also a big deal to give her marriage another shot. He observed that she seemed excited about starting a new adventure, but a part of her was also hesitant. He surmised that change was holding her back.
Sharon insisted that change was good because it provided opportunities for people to grow and break away from the mundane. She thought things had been different the last time she and Nick had been married, and Rey figured that was a good thing, or they wouldn't be giving it another shot. Sharon pointed out that Rey was still married, but he was there while his wife wasn't. He referenced baggage they'd had going into the marriage, and Sharon questioned who didn't. Rey said Nick was lucky to have her.
Rey confided that he was avoiding going back to his sublet, which had a weird smell. Sharon asked how long he'd be in town to work on the case, and he informed her that his brother and sister also lived there. She mentioned that she had a small apartment above the coffeehouse that was vacant, and he was surprised that she'd consider renting it to him when he was on her bad side. Nick entered the coffeehouse and noted that Sharon hadn't been answering her phone. She apologized for leaving the party, and she blamed it on pre-wedding emotions.
Rey revealed that he'd managed to get an apartment, and Sharon thought it seemed a shame to leave it vacant when she could have a cop upstairs. Rey thanked her for everything and headed out. Nick recognized that it hadn't been a great night, but Sharon countered that it hadn't been as bad as getting arrested. Nick proposed that they salvage it, and he flicked off the lights and put a song on the jukebox. "Just you and me and no one else," he said as he extended his hand. They held one another close.
The song ended, and both Sharon and Nick squirmed. He inquired whether she'd been having second thoughts when she'd said she wanted to talk earlier that night, but she swore she wasn't. He recalled that it had sounded important, and she remembered that he'd been about to say something, too. Nick declared that there was something she needed to know before the next day, and he professed his love.
