Due to CBS Sports coverage of the US Open tennis tournament, the CBS Daytime lineup did not air.
Regular programming of The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, As the World Turns, and Guiding Light resumed Tuesday where Friday's shows concluded.
There were no "lost" episodes as a result of this preemption.
Tom stopped by John's office and introduced himself as "Tom, Ashley's friend." He informed John that he had once been married to Gloria and that his name was really Tom Fisher. Tom told John that he was in town, trying to make amends with his family. John was furious that he had been lying to Ashley about who he really was. Tom was sure Ashley had told John some good things about him and asked John to give him a chance.
John was suspicious that Tom had plans to extort money from them. Tom told John that Gloria didn't know he was in town and that she didn't know he was seeing Ashley. He said he wanted to be honest with John, so that was why he had gone to him. John said he didn't believe a word Tom was saying and threatened Tom to stay away from his family. Tom walked out the door after leaving John and gave a wicked snicker, saying, "Good luck, Mikey."
Meanwhile, Michael was waiting with a nervous Gloria at the Abbott house, where Michael had told Gloria they were going to tell John everything as soon as he got home. All of a sudden, the doorbell rang. Gloria tensed up and went to the door, but it was Kevin. After Kevin entered, Gloria accused Michael and Kevin of being in cahoots with each other about forcing her to confront John with the truth about Tom.
Gloria was appalled that Tom had forced himself into Kevin's new apartment and demanded to live there with Kevin. Gloria's nerves were shot. She went to the kitchen to make some tea. Kevin took this opportunity to tell Michael about his and Mac's plans to make a proposal to Nick and Sharon to buy the coffeehouse. Michael thought it was a wonderful idea and said he was very proud of Kevin. He approved of Kevin using the lottery money to fund the venture.
Jack was sitting at a table, thinking about a conversation he'd had with Victoria about Seasons, when Ashley sat down and joined him. He pointed out to Ashley that Victoria and Brad seemed to be meeting with some top-level marketing executives over at another table. Ashley suggested to Jack that since he was CEO of Chancellor Industries, he should have Chancellor buy out Jabot. As they gazed over to Brad and Victoria's table, it looked as though they had closed the Seasons deal with the two executives. After the executives left, Brad and Victoria made a toast to their prosperous working relationship.
Nick and Sharon were at home, where Nick was telling her about the soapbox car he was planning to build with Noah. Sharon informed Nick that she planned on going back to work the next day. Nick was upset that Sharon hadn't told him she was planning on going back so soon. Nick told Sharon he himself was not ready to go back to work and that Victoria was doing a good job. Sharon suggested he think about returning to work, otherwise he might have trouble getting back his CEO position. Sharon thought Nick had lost his passion for life and cared about nothing.
Phyllis met up with Daniel at the park where he told her Lily was gone -- her parents had sent her to a boarding school in New Hampshire just to keep them apart. Phyllis said she wanted to take Daniel home. A sad Daniel told his mother that he felt they really had never had their own home. They had always been staying somewhere else. He liked staying with the Abbotts but felt like he didn't belong.
Neil met Devon at the hospital after he learned of Yolanda's overdose. Devon feared his mother would die. Olivia confirmed to them that Yolanda had indeed overdosed. She was unconscious and unstable. Olivia wanted Devon to wait while she talked to Neil. She explained to Neil that Yolanda's condition was very serious. While they were talking, Devon wandered away. He sneaked into Yolanda's room.
Phyllis met up with Jack, and they ordered a drink. She told Jack the sad story of Daniel and Lily. She also told him that she felt it was time for her and Daniel to leave and to find a place of their own as a family, as Daniel needed some structure and a real home.
Gloria and Michael were still waiting for John. The phone rang, and Gloria nervously answered it, figuring it was John, but it was Tom instead. Tom told her to admit nothing to John and hung up. She told Michael it had been a wrong number. They then heard John's car drive up. He stormed into the house and slammed the door. Gloria timidly asked him how his day had been. Michael then announced, "My mother and I have something to tell you. It can't wait another moment."
Kevin and Mac presented their idea for buying Crimson Lights to Nick and Sharon. Nick seemed impressed by their research, but Sharon said even if Crimson Lights was for sale, she had reservations about selling it to Kevin. The people in Genoa City had a long memory. Kevin said it was his chance to prove that he'd changed and become a responsible citizen. After they left, Kevin and Mac agreed that there was a lot of tension between Nick and Sharon, and they weren't sure the Newmans were going to sell the coffeehouse to them.
Sharon told Nick that she didn't want to sell Crimson Lights. It was the place where they'd met and where Nick had proposed to her. All their memories were tied up there, including how much Cassie had loved the place. It was where her friends still went. For Sharon, losing the coffeehouse would be losing a last tie to their daughter.
Nick said all he could think of was the last time he'd seen Cassie there, when she'd sneaked out of the hospital and collapsed after trying to see Daniel. Sharon said she understood, but if he didn't care about his job at Newman, and he didn't care about Crimson Lights, she wondered what he did care about. Nick wondered if she still blamed him for letting Cassie go out that night. Sharon denied it, but she couldn't really meet his eyes, and Nick left.
When John got home, Michael said that he needed to talk to John about something, but John insisted that Michael leave. He said he needed to talk privately to his wife. Michael left, but he warned Gloria that it would still have to be dealt with. After Michael was gone, John told Gloria that Tom had gone to see him.
With Tom's warning phone call ringing in her ears, Gloria said nothing and let John do all the talking. John had believed Tom's version of things -- that Gloria had never known Tom was in town because Michael and Kevin had been covering for him. Gloria asked John to understand that Kevin and Michael had suffered abuse, too, and had only been protecting her. John disagreed and told Gloria the rest of his news.
Gloria was genuinely shocked to hear that Tom was the man Ashley had been seeing. She agreed that he'd been using Ashley to get information about her or perhaps had even wanted Ashley's money. John said that what Michael had done was unforgivable. Maybe Kevin had been traumatized by Tom's return, but Michael had enabled Tom to get close to Ashley. He wondered what would have happened if Tom had hurt her, or worse, had hurt Abby.
John asked why Michael had gone there that night, and Gloria lied and said they'd wanted to ask John if they could have Michael and Lauren's wedding in the Abbott home. John said that Michael was no longer welcome in his house. After John went upstairs to change out of his business suit, Gloria whispered that Tom hadn't destroyed her marriage; he'd saved it.
At the club spa, Tom sat down to have a drink with the disguised Sheila. He told her that he'd taken care of his problem. Sheila was uncomfortable when Michael entered and confronted Tom, afraid that he might recognize her. However, Michael barely gave her a glance, taking Tom aside to tell him that he hadn't talked to John yet, but he still intended to. Tom said it was too late. He'd sacrificed his interest in Ashley so that he could tell John himself. Only he'd made Gloria look innocent and Michael look like the villain.
As Sheila listened, Michael told Tom that he hadn't won. There was a lot about himself that Michael had suppressed over the years, and Tom was about to find out how dangerous he could be. After Michael walked out, Tom told Sheila that Michael had just declared war on him. Sheila assured Tom that he wasn't alone; Tom had an ally in her, and she would put her dollars on them winning.
Dru called Neil to tell him that Lily had been enrolled in her new boarding school in New Hampshire. When she found out that Yolanda had overdosed and Neil was at the hospital with Devon, Dru wanted to talk to Devon. Neil couldn't find him because Devon had disobeyed Olivia and gone into Yolanda's room, where he promised his unconscious mother that he was going to stay by her side and help her break her drug habit.
When Neil and Olivia made him leave the room, Devon passionately argued that he should be by his mother's side. Olivia and Neil finally agreed to let him sit by his mother, but they went back with him. When Yolanda woke up and figured out where she was, she became violent, wanting to get out of the hospital. Orderlies had to restrain Yolanda while an upset Devon looked on.
Jack and Phyllis went to see an apartment that she was thinking of renting. Jack tried to talk her out of it, saying that she could find a better place. Phyllis reminded him that she didn't have a job and had nearly gone through her savings. Jack said that she and Daniel should remain at the Abbott house for a few months until she got back on her feet financially.
Phyllis disagreed, saying that she needed to get Daniel moved into a permanent place before he started the year at his new school. Jack wondered if that was Phyllis' way of breaking away from him. Phyllis denied it, but while she was writing a check to her new landlord, Jack quietly left. Phyllis was stunned to realize that he was gone.
Gloria told Ashley that the same Tom that Ashley had been seeing was her ex-husband. Ashley couldn't believe she had befriended him and was even more surprised when she learned Michael had known about Tom. Michael revealed to Kevin that Tom had gotten the upper hand with John. Michael was furious that Tom would always have control over them if they didn't tell the truth about what he was doing to Gloria.
Sheila, disguised as Jennifer, joined Tom at the bar. She listened to Tom gripe about Michael, Kevin, and Lauren. Sheila caught on and said he couldn't sit back and let people keep him miserable, saying that he had to hurt them back. Tom stated that they seemed to have a lot in common then prepared for the worst when he saw Ashley enter. Ashley walked up and slapped him across the face. Sheila took Tom back to her motel room so they could get better acquainted. Sheila surprised Tom when she pulled off her wig.
Victoria revealed to Nick that Seasons was going to be on the shelf in time for the holidays. Nick was impressed, and she stated that half the credit was due to Brad, who was exactly the kind of guy he wanted on her team. At the coffeehouse, Sharon had a fantasy that Cassie was with her, and they talked about going school shopping. Sharon snapped back to reality when Brad entered and sat with her. He told her about the Seasons launch, and Sharon told Brad about the offer they had gotten to buy the coffeehouse.
Phyllis took Daniel to their new apartment. The whole place was exquisitely decorated. Phyllis was shocked until she saw Jack, who said that the manager had let him in earlier. Phyllis couldn't thank Jack enough, and Daniel was ecstatic about his new room and thanked Jack for the gesture. Daniel left to give them alone time. Phyllis and Jack kissed, which led to making love.
