Timothy D. Stickney originated the role menacing R.J. Gannon in August 1994, a dangerously charming man whose illegal dealings continually cause friction with Llanview's law enforcement. His winning portrayal of R.J. earned him a 1996 Soap Opera Award nomination for Outstanding Villain, and he was honored with the award in 2000.
Raised in Wilmington, DE, Mr. Stickney is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts whose professional theater experience is deeply rooted in Shakespeare. He toured with the National Shakespeare Company for three years -- his first role, as Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet, came shortly after answering an ad in Backstage -- and appeared in the New York Shakespeare Festival productions of The Taming of the Shrew and The Two Parts of Henry IV. In addition to his other Shakespearean credits, he performed in 1969, a play which the actors and director wrote while in rehearsal, and the 20-minute play, Stones and Bones, at the Actor's Theatre of Louisville's Humana Festival of American Plays. Mr. Stickney was also a Teaching Artist at New York City's Theatre For A New Audience in 1990. In March 2002 he played the title role in Othello with the Africa Arts Theatre in Manhattan.
Mr. Stickney has appeared in a number of films, including Green Card, Presumed Innocent, King of New York, Where the Heart Is and Three of Hearts. Though his role on One Life to Live is his first on Daytime television, it reunites him with actor Nathan Purdee, star of The Return of Superfly, in which Mr. Stickney played his cabdriver. He has also appeared in a number of network and cable television movies, including Barbarians at the Gate and The Marla Hanson Story.
Mr. Stickney's talents extend to music as well: He toured Europe with the American Youth Jazz Band as a vocal soloist, and also performed with both the All Eastern Honors and Delaware All-State Choirs. Before concentrating on theater, he also performed Caribbean and African dance.
Married to dancer/choreographer Laura L. Priestly, Mr. Stickney is an avid cyclist, science fiction fan and comic book and toy collector.
