In what may be a stunning surprise to fans, Bryan Craig (Morgan Corinthos) will exit his General Hospital role.
Multiple sources have confirmed to Soap Central that Craig asked to be let out of his contact, which was set to expire in the spring of 2017. While the show intially refused, the two sides subsequently agreed to meet in the middle.
According to one setside source, money was not the issue for Craig's request to be released from the show.
There are no immediate plans to recast the role of Morgan, and Soap Central was told that the show is hopeful that Craig might have a change of heart and want to return to the show at a later date.
The news couldn't come at a worse time for GH, as word also recently surfaced that Tyler Christopher will not be returning to the show as originally anticipated.
Earlier this year, Craig won his first Daytime Emmy in the Outstanding Younger Actor category. Craig joined the ABC soap in 2013.
Craig will last air in November.
UPDATE:
Craig released a statement confirming his exit to Soap Opera Digest. It read, in part, "It's been an amazing journey, but I feel like the time is right for me to say goodbye to General Hospital and Morgan Corinthos." Craig thanked the cast, crew, and fans.
