Emmy winner Hunter King (Summer Newman) is rejoining The Young and the Restless -- and it won't just be for a brief visit. King will be on contract with Y&R when she returns to the daytime airwaves next month.
King exited The Young and the Restless in 2016 when she booked a role on the CBS primetime series Life in Pieces. Officially, the top-rated CBS soap has said that King was on "recurring status" at Y&R, but King hasn't appeared on-screen since December 2016 when Summer decided to take a break from college and travel the world.
It's unclear what Summer has been up to during those travels, but based on the photo that was released to announce her return, it would seem that she has landed in a little bit of hot water.
CBS recently renewed Life in Pieces for a fourth season, but the sitcom is not expected to return until midseason, which presumably is what has allowed King to return to Y&R full-time.
King made her first appearance as Summer in October 2012. She received back-to-back Daytime Emmy wins in the Outstanding Younger Actress category in 2014 and 2015.
King makes her Y&R return on June 4 and -- surprise! -- it's a Monday and not a Friday cliffhanger!
News of King's return to Y&R was first reported by TVLine.
