The Young and the Restless actress Courtney Hope (Sally Spectra) turned hero when she saved a stray kitten from certain death, while others turned a blind eye.

Heroes come in all forms. They don't always wear capes, and sometimes they stumble across a harrowing situation and take bold action without thinking. The Young and the Restless actress Courtney Hope (Sally Spectra) is one such person. Recently, the actress shared a scary story about a drive home that ended with the rescue of an injured kitten.

It all started when Hope took to Instagram to ask followers if they knew of any animal rescues in the area that helped injured stray kittens. After a few responses, the actress posted several videos to explain how she had ended up with the tiny hurt kitten. It was quite a tail, er, tale.

Hope explained that she had been driving home when she saw something small in the middle of the road a few car lengths ahead. She noticed that cars either swerved to avoid hitting it or drove over it. In some cases, their tires rolling over the object. As she drew closer, she saw the tiny thing bounce off the pavement. "The cars were going so fast, like the wind was taking it and it was bouncing up into the undercarriage of the cars," Hope said.

Hope quickly realized the object was actually a small kitten in desperate need of help. She quickly did a U-turn hoping to stop the car behind her, but it drove right over the helpless kitten. Forced into action, Hope jumped out of her car, ran over, and scooped up the kitten, all the while praying that it wasn't dead. To her surprise and relief, the kitten was still alive but clearly injured and in shock from its ordeal. "I drove it to my vet, we did x-rays, and the cat has no internal injuries. By the grace of God, I have no idea how. Literally, probably by the grace of God."

The kitten turned out to be a girl and a little under three months old. The actress had hoped to find an animal rescue to help with the kitten's medical expenses because she needed surgery to repair her lip and help rehoming her. The actress explained that as much as she would like to keep the kitten -- whom she described as sweet and a warrior -- she was unable to because she is highly allergic to cats. However, Hope made a plea to her followers. "I know there's a lot going on in our lives, but if you see an animal in the middle of the road, please just stop. At least just move it out of the middle of the road or call someone, because you could be literally saving a life."

On October 18, Hope shared an update, revealing that the kitten -- whom she had named Green Eggs -- was recovering from lip surgery and would remain in Hope's loving care until a permanent home could be found. She expressed her gratitude to MaeDay Rescue in Los Angeles and vowed to "flood our feeds" with little kitty photos! Even though MaeDay describes themselves as a dog rescue, they do take in kittens like little Green Eggs.

It's been three years since Courtney Hope brought Sally Spectra to The Young and the Restless from sister soap The Bold and the Beautiful. Hope originated the role of B&B's Sally in 2017 as part of the show's 30th anniversary nod to past B&B characters.
