The investigation into Ashland's death has officially been closed, but The Young and the Restless' Joshua Morrow says Nicholas Newman is "still very troubled."
In the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, the actor explains, "Despite all of his rantings about how he wanted Ashland gone, to actually be involved in the demise of another human being is not something Nick is equipped for. He's really struggling with the notion of what he's done."
This may come as a surprise to some viewers, who assume that Nick would be able to handle it just as well as his dad, Victor (Eric Braeden), who's been guilty of similar shady shenanigans scores of times in the past.
"Nick is just not built like his dad, who can do this sort of thing for the sake of the family without batting an eyelash," Morrow points out. "Nick stopped Ashland for the sake of the family, but he's not dealing with the repercussions nearly as well. Nick's really struggling with this."
It doesn't help that Victor made matters worse by moving Ashland's body, which escalated what could have been a cut-and-dried self-defense situation into a full-blown murder situation.
"[Nick] hates not being honest, so, this cover-up really bugs him," Morrow says, leading to the question: Will Nick end up buckling and confessing to his and Victor's misdeeds?
"[Sharon] offers to be his sounding board to help him get a handle on his feelings, but even then Nick may still go to the police and come clean about the cover-up," Morrow teases. "Will dealing with the ramifications of his actions outweigh his allegiance to his family?"
