Pretty much everyone in Genoa City has been questioning Sally Spectra's motives since the new The Young and the Restless character landed in town following a move from The Bold and the Beautiful's Los Angeles. Has she really left her baggage behind? Does she really want a fresh start in a new town? And, more recently, does she really have good intentions when it comes to her blossoming romance with Jack (Peter Bergman)?
Y&R fans may have to wait a bit longer for the full answers to the first two questions, but Sally's portrayer, Courtney Hope, has offered a glimpse into what's going on in her alter ego's mind when it comes to Jack. Soap Central interviewed the actress not long after she arrived in Genoa City, and while the connection between Sally and Jack was brand new at that point, we did ask her about Sally's romantic prospects and if the writers were testing her chemistry with the men she was working with.
"Yeah, I'm sure! I definitely feel like that's something they're always looking out for," she revealed, adding, "Which I always think is so funny, because as an actor, I like to say that I can have chemistry with anything or anyone!"
Though it was still too early for Hope to reveal whether or not Sally and Jack were going to hook up, she did give an indication as to what Sally expects romantically at Y&R.
"She's going to be forming friendships that could end up transforming into something more, and I think that's beautiful, and that's heartfelt," she teased. "Sally wants to be loved, and she wants a family because she didn't have one."
Considering Sally has been stirring up loads of trouble for Jack's son Kyle (Michael Mealor), we're pretty sure he wouldn't be thrilled with a "Jack plus Sally plus baby makes three" scenario. But it might be an eventuality that Kyle will have to get used to as he digests the news about his own baby, because Hope says that when Sally feels like she's found the right romantic match, she'll be in it for the long haul.
"She wants something that is substantial and long-lasting -- for as 'long-lasting' as something can be on a soap opera!" Hope enthuses. "She's not just after the fame and fortune, if you will. She wants that grounded love and to feel safe, so we'll see. Hopefully she can find it in Genoa City!"
