The majority of The Young and the Restless viewers can't seem to figure out why Ashley Abbott is so unlucky in love. It's almost as if all the writers who've tackled the character since she came to the canvas 34 years ago have thrown mud at the wall and nothing has stuck. Could returning head writer Sally Sussman finally correct Ashley's romance problems? Perhaps, but she's gone on record saying portrayer Eileen Davidson is such a powerful actress, not many actors can match her.
"I don't completely agree... but it's not the first time I've heard it," Davidson tells TV Insider of the compliment. "I used to get that from [Y&R co-creator] Bill Bell when I was in my 20s."
However, her "powerful" presence didn't stop the insane chemistry between the California native and her former Days of our Lives costar Eric Martsolf (Brady Black) when she played Kristen DiMera, which she says took her by surprise.
"I had a very good thing going with Eric and I never saw that one coming," she admits. "I could never have predicted it. I didn't know him, never auditioned with him, but we had fantastic chemistry, so who the hell knows? [Laughs] I sure don't. But I don't take [what's happening at Y&R] personally. Nor do I feel the ball is in my court. I make story suggestions, share my thoughts. Not in an aggressive way, but I certainly don't sit around going, ‘Whatever.' I have faith Sally will make something happen. In the meantime, Ashley is yelling a lot at Jack [Peter Bergman] and Phyllis [Gina Tognoni]."
That being said, Davidson isn't opposed to a return to DAYS if her Genoa City storyline doesn't heat up.
"I'm open to anything. I have extreme amounts of love for Salem and for my character, Kristen, and feel very loyal to that show," she shares. "But Y&R is my job right now and I wouldn't ever want to do anything that pissed anyone off!"
