Mary Stuart, who was born Mary Stuart Houchins, spent most her life in the acting business. Mary's career began at the age of 12 singing with local bands and working with the USO at area military bases during high school. After graduating, she worked as a photojournalist in order to earn money to go to New York. Her big break came when while working as a nightclub photographer and hat check girl at the Hotel Roosevelt Grill in New York City, she began singing with the hotel band which led to a screen test and a contract with MGM. After working as a screen test and publicity stand-in for Bette Davis, she was given small parts in movies.
