Born in Montgomery, Alabama, and raised in Neenah, Wisconsin, Jensen Buchanan's acting career began with an early love of music. After graduating from high school, she attended Boston University's School of Fine Arts, where she majored in voice with a concentration in opera. She also studied at the Boston University Theater Institute, and appeared in musical productions of "The Gondoliers," "Babes in Toyland," "They're Playing Our Song," "Pippin," and "The Sound of Music." After graduating, Jensen joined the Boston Summer Stock Theater where she toured with a "Theater for Children" group.
Hooked on theater for good, Jensen then moved to New York in 1986 and performed with the Light Opera of Manhattan. One year later, after signing a development deal with ABC, Jensen landed her first daytime role as Sarah Buchanan on One Life to Live. She went on to land the highly-coveted dual role of twins Vicky and Marley Hudson on Another World in 1991. During her eight years on the show, Jensen was nominated twice for Daytime Emmys for Best Lead Actress and won two MVP Awards for Best actress. After the cancellation of the soap in 1999, Buchanan appeared briefly on As The World Turns, and then moved to California where she was offered her current role on General Hospital.
Buchanan enjoys singing, playing the piano, and playing tennis.
