Amy Lost her hearing at the age of 6 due to an illness.
Her mother, Shirley, enrolled her in Drama classes to prevent a speech impairment at age 8
Amy reads lips and is also skilled in American Sign Language
She was recently honored by the National Council on Communicative Disorders and the time and energy she devotes to the organization.
In 1999 Amy underwent surgery and had a cochlear implant put behind her ears to restore her hearing.
