Fans who were devastated about the impending exit of Days of our Lives' Galen Gering (Rafe Hernandez) can breathe a huge sigh of relief, because the actor is returning to Salem!
Gering, whose contract expired and was not renewed earlier this year, filmed what was to be his final episode in February, and he was expected to make his final appearance on-screen later this month. But he took to social media to share that the decision has been reversed, and he has re-joined the NBC soap opera he has been a part of since 2008.
"I'm back," Gering tweeted along with a link to an Entertainment Weekly article about his new status, which also includes a couple of teasers about what else DAYS has planned in the weeks ahead.

According to the EW article, production of DAYS will resume on August 31 rather than September 1, as previously reported. The show's return-to-filming date is much later than that of The Bold and the Beautiful, The Young and the Restless, and General Hospital -- which have all resumed production at various times in the last couple of months -- because it had months-worth of episodes taped before the COVID-19 pandemic to carry it through October.
"We didn't have to rush it," Corday explains of waiting to resume production. "I wanted to make absolutely sure we were dotting every I and crossing every T with county health."
When the show does get back to work at the end of the month, Corday says that the cast and crew will quickly jump into working on some very special material for the show's 55th anniversary. And he also teases that there might even be some kissing and other intimate behavior shown on-screen -- assuming the actors are game.
"It's really up to the individual actors and how much they do or don't want to do," Corday says, adding, "And no, we won't be using dolls."
