Millions of fans across the nation have been praying for a reunion of Days of our Lives' Sami (Alison Sweeney) and E.J. (James Scott) since both actors left Salem last year, but it took one very special fan to make it happen. 16-year-old wheelchair-bound Syrian refugee Nageen Mustafa, who was attempting to cross into Germany, told reporters that she learned English by watching DAYS, particularly the EJami relationship.
Hearing that E.J. was Mustafa's favorite character, the team of HBO's Last Week Tonight with John Oliver decided to do something special for the young girl as part of their effort to shed light on the struggles of migrants and refugees. The show featured a humorous recap of the storyline leading up to E.J.'s on-screen "death" and then a clip in which Sweeney and Scott played out a pretend reunion -- complete with a personalized shout-out to Mustafa (a recap of the show is shown below).
Following the broadcast, Scott took to Twitter with the message, "Thank you #LastWeekTonight and #Ali_Sweeney and #Noujain for one last Dimera dance!" followed by "#ejamiaintover ;-)"
Sweeney also tweeted after the show: " So glad to give #Noujain her HEA and so important to bring attention to her story." The actress also linked to the original ABC News story that brought Mustafa's story to the masses.
UPDATES:
ABC News reports that Nageen saw Scott and Sweeney's video and tearfully remarked, "I don't even care that [E.J.] mentioned my name. I just care that they are back together!" She then mentioned that she'd love to be able to talk to the DAYS actors because she has "something special to tell them." In true soap fashion, the 16-year-old did not reveal her secret message.
Nujeen did get to talk to Sweeney and Scott and posted this video afterwards. The video, however, has since been removed from YouTube.
