Days of our Lives will continue its recent streak of wowing viewers on September 21, when A Martinez (Eduardo; ex-Ray Montez, One Life to Live; ex-Roy DiLucca, General Hospital; ex-Cruz Castillo, Santa Barbara) makes his grand debut on the NBC series. But just what can fans expect once the popular actor arrives in Salem as Eduardo, the mysterious ex of Kassie DePaiva's Eve?
"His true agenda and nature [are] fairly hidden and therefore what you see initially is not necessarily what you're going to get down the line," Martinez reveals in the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, adding that he was particularly pleased to start off in heavy story with DePaiva. "My character and her character share a history. Kassie is someone who I got to work with briefly on One Life to Live, when I was playing Ray Montez [from 2008 to 2009]... She's an amazingly great person. So that was cool. We hit it off instantly, in terms of finding that through-line to make you believe that here are two people who shared a really turbulent and powerful past."
But perhaps the thing Martinez has appreciated most about his DAYS gig is that it is giving him a chance to right what he views as OLTL wrongs. "I'm so glad to have another shot to work with [Camila Banus, Gabi Hernandez; ex-Lola Montez, OLTL], because I felt the thing I was doing over at One Life to Live limited what I could do," he reveals. "That character was never supposed to be someone who lasted a long time. Had I known that he would last a long time, I would have approached it differently. So it's nice to come here and know that I'm going to be playing long-term story, and that I can actually set [my] character up to gracefully function in that environment to the degree I failed to do on One Life."
