Former The Bold and the Beautiful star Gina Rodriguez (ex-Beverly) is one busy bee this year. Hot on the heels of the news that she will be starring in the Netflix limited series Lost Ollie comes news that she has also taken the lead role in a romantic comedy film for the popular streaming service.
Rodriguez will be starring in Players as Chicago sportswriter Mack, who has spent years devising successful hook-up "plays" with best friend Adam (Damon Wayans Jr.) and their crew. But when she unexpectedly falls head over heels for one of her targets (Tom Ellis), they all must learn what it takes to go from simply scoring to playing for keeps.
Trish Sie is attached to direct the rom-com, which was written by Whit Anderson (Ozark, Daredevil).
Gina Rodriguez played the role of B&B's Beverly in 2011. She went on to find fame in the hit series Jane the Virgin, which she has followed up with credits like Elena of Avalor, Big Mouth, and Carmen Sandiego. In addition to Players and Lost Ollie, Rodriguez is also slated for the Amazon feature I Want You Back, which follows friends who hatch a desperate plan to put an end to their exes' new relationships and win them back.
It's been a busy week for past and present soap stars landing non-soap roles: General Hospital's Maurice Benard has been tapped to play a real-life mobster; Multi-soap vet A. Martinez will star in the Michael Bay action film Ambulance; Y&R alum Sofia Pernas landed a role in the ABC comedy pilot Adopted; and All My Children's Michael B. Jordan will make his directorial debut with the film Creed III.
