Before The Bold and the Beautiful went off the air in April due to the coronavirus pandemic, fans of the series were watching Sally Spectra, played by actress Courtney Hope, pulling off a major scam by pretending to be dying of a terminal illness. With the CBS soap opera set to return with all-new episodes on Monday, July 20, it's only a matter of time before viewers find out if Sally will be successful with her devious little ploy.
As fans may recall, viewers watched Sally receive her diagnosis through an exam room window, and details about what ailed her were kept secret. This meant that the actress couldn't do much research to help convey Sally's illness. Still, as she tells Soaps In Depth, symptoms like hand tremors and lightheadedness came easily to the actress as she dove into her scenes. "My body would really react when [Sally] would get worked up," Hope shares. "I'd go back to my dressing room, and my hands would still be shaking!"
Sally's ordeal also hit Hope on a personal level, mostly because she's fiercely protective of the character she's been playing since 2017. "I hate seeing Sally hurt and sick -- that's really heartbreaking," she says, adding that she is just as excited as anyone to see how everything turns out -- especially after it came out that Sally's "diagnosis" was actually part of a scheme -- concocted with the help of the ambitious Dr. Escobar (Monica Ruiz) -- enacted to bring Wyatt (Darin Brooks) back to Sally's side.
"From day one, she's always fought for who she is and what she loves," says Hope of Sally's determination. "She's lost so many of her dreams when it's come to her career and her romantic life, but she won't go down without a fight!"
