Just several hours after the announcement that she and partner of three years, Ellen DeGeneres, had split, Anne Heche was found wandering on a dirt road near a farmhouse In Fresno, California.
The 31-year-old, who got her big break playing Marley and Vicky on Another World from 1987 to 1991, reportedly suffered car troubles while driving along Highway 22 in Central California. The actress is said to have pulled her Toyota sports utility vehicle to the side of the road and headed off to seek assistance.
Witnesses have reported that Heche was wearing little clothing when she knocked on the door of Aracelli Campiz, who, by an odd twist of fate, claims to be one of Heches biggest fans. KSEE-TV reported that Heche was wearing only a bra, shorts and shoes. The NBC affiliate went to say that, Heche claimed that she was God and was going to take everyone back to heaven with her...on some sort of spaceship."
Police took Heche to a nearby hospital where she was released some two hours later. Officials would say only that Heche was treated for a medical situation and declined to give any specifics on the case. Media reports, however, have since stated that Heche appeared to have been under the influence of a controlled substance.
Two days following the incident, Heche boarded a plane and flew to Toronto, where shes set to film John Q opposite Academy Award winner Denzel Washington. In the film, Heche will play an administrator at a hospital taken hostage by Washington.
On August 19th, Heche and girlfriend, Ellen DeGeneres, released a statement to the press to respond to reports by a New York newspaper that theyd split.
"Unfortunately, we have decided to end our relationship," the pair said in a statement. "It is an amicable parting, and we greatly value the three and a half years we have spent together."
The statement insisted that no third-party was involved in the breakup, though the tabloids have been abuzz with reports that Heche is once again involved with a male lover.
