Kevin Sheffield struggled with his homosexuality and sought counsel from his high school teacher, Michael Delaney. When Kevin finally came out to his parents they disowned him and threw him out of their house. His older brother, Jason, blamed Michael Delaney for Kevin's sexuality and attempted to kill him. In a horrible twist of date, Jason shot and killed Michael's sister, Laurel Dillon. Kevin's parents blamed him for his brother's incarceration.
Luckily, Opal and Palmer Cortland took him in and gave him the love and support he needed. Opal was able to get Mrs. Sheffield to come around. Judith, however, insisted that Kevin see a psychiatrist to help mend their differences. Little did anyone know that the psychiatrist believed he could "cure" Kevin from being gay.
Kevin really tried to be straight to win back his parents affection, but it just didn't work. After a disastrous attempt to have a relationship with Kelsey Jefferson, he accepted his sexual orientation. Judith also came around, but Kevin's father, Sid, wasn't as open-minded.
Kevin was last seen working at Holidays on the day that it was leveled by an explosion. Though an AMC exec insisted that Kevin was not killed in the blast, he has not been seen on-screen since.
