Now that All My Children's initial cast is in place for its Internet relaunch, there are some questions being raised about what might happen down the line. Perhaps one of the biggest questions is whether or not Emmy winner Darnell Williams (Jesse Hubbard) will have an opportunity to play a dual role.
Though Williams is best known for his work as Jesse Hubbard, Williams also portrayed a dead ringer for Jesse on Loving (and later its spinoff, The City) named Jacob Foster. Now that Jacob's adopted daughter, Cassandra, is headed back to Pine Valley, might Jacob make an appearance too?
"I think somebody had a twinkle in their eye about that," Williams told Soap Central. "I don't know if they're gonna do that, but I definitely think that idea is out there."
Williams beamed broadly and seemed absolutely giddy at the prospect, but he admitted that with a dual role comes double the work load.
"It's a lot of work, though. I'd be up for it. I did a movie for television doing [two roles], and it's time consuming. And the volume of work. But I could handle that if they went that way," Williams replied, before pausing pensively.
"Yeah. I could handle it -- unless I couldn't," he added with a laugh."
During Williams' remarks, David Canary entered the room. Williams shook his head and, referencing Canary's decades-long run as twins Adam and Stuart Chandler, remarked, "Nobody can touch that!"
Darnell Williams first appeared on All My Children in 1981. Williams left the show in 1988, and his character was killed off. Williams reprised his iconic role in 2008, when Angie learned that Jesse had not, in fact, died 20 years earlier, but rather had faked his death to keep his family safe from some disreputable and dangerous people. He remained with All My Children through the show's final episode in 2011.
Williams has won two Daytime Emmys. In 1983, he was named Outstanding Supporting Actor. Two years later, Williams won the Outstanding Lead Actor trophy.
