Call it a Sweeps stunt or a shameless plot for a boost in the show's sagging ratings, but All My Children welcomes multi-award-winning chanteuse Celine Dion to the show later this month. Dion's performance will be part of a promotional media tour for her new album, Taking Chances.
"We are thrilled and honored to welcome Celine Dion to the All My Children stage. Her appearance with Erica Kane and her musical performance is a great treat for our audience. I can't think of a better way to ring in the holiday season than with the angelic sounds of Celine Dion," executive producer Julie Hanan Carruthers said in a statement.
Dion will make an appearance on the set of Erica Kane's fictional talk show, New Beginnings. In addition to discussing her life and her new album, Dion will perform her latest single -- the title track, "Taking Chances."
Taking Chances marks Dion's first new album in four years. During that time, Dion headlined sold-out performances of her "A New Day" show at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The album title accurately reflects Dion's work as the songs stray slightly from the power ballad format that Dion might be best known for. In addition to the title track, which rocks out with electric guitars, Dion also covers the Heart song "Alone," tackles the blues with "The Woman in Me" and visits familiar ballad territory with "A Song For You."
While daytime's overall ratings are still sliding, record executives have realized that soaps represent a great way to reach a targeted female viewing audience. In recent years, many top recording stars have appeared on various daytime dramas to help promote their albums. Last month, hip hop star Timbaland appeared on ABC's One Life to Live. This month CBS's The Young and the Restless got into the act with Enrique Iglesias performing a track from his latest album.
Taking Chances hits stores on November 14th. Dion makes her All My Children debut a week later, on November 21st.
